Angela C., Intern
Diane L. Watkins, Director, Human Resources:
As a student intern, Ms. Angela C. has displayed all the qualities inherent in an outstanding employee. The Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport summer internship program has offered Angela an opportunity to work in various departments of the hotel: Human Resources, Michener's Restaurant, Laundry and Front Desk. Angela's willingness to learn, eagerness, initiative and dedication to every task given to her have inspired pride and confidence in her superiors and enthusiasm from her co-workers.
Angela will continue to work on the weekends when she goes back to school.
Angela C., Academy Intern:
My thanks for a wonderful opportunity to work as an Academy of Hospitality and Tourism intern at the Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport this summer. I have had an incredible experience getting to know just how a successful hotel like Sheraton is managed day in and day out. In doing so, I traveled to several departments and walked in their footsteps for a few days.
Let me begin downstairs in Michener's. Working in the restaurant provided me with hands on experience in doing my part to make sure our customers are always satisfied. My tasks in the restaurant ranged from bussing a dirty table and helping a co-worker prepare our customers' food to delivering room service
Follow me now to Banquets. In the banquet area there are various meetings, weddings or simple group gatherings that I had the opportunity to be a part of. Setting up the ballroom and magnificent buffets for many affairs at the hotel was just as good a learning process as serving food during the wedding receptions. I very much enjoyed the banquet department.
Unlike the other departments which are fully staffed, Mrs. Diane in Human Resources is the star in her own one-woman show. While working in her office, I helped file papers and learned about the bi-weekly payroll system we use.
My final stop, thus far during my internship, was the Laundry department. Last explored but certainly not forgotten.
The next department adventure along this road will be the captain of this ship we call Sheraton, in other words, the Front Desk. The front desk is the most essential stop for any guest staying with us at the hotel, so no matter what you're doing it involves the guests and their problems. Whether your engagement is answering phone calls or checking guests in and out, their problem with the hotel is your problem and it's your calling to grasp that problem as quickly and eagerly as possible. Using dedication and the knowledge I have gained, I look forward to continuing my work at Sheraton
